The mission of the Air Force Research Division (AFRD) is to provide support to the Air Force and its fighters with an understanding of science and technology that will form the basis of future capabilities. AFRD has developed a strategic research and development process that reflects the future UNSF capacity needs as medium-term attributes, described in terms of technological achievements. Specific capabilities, such as improving the delivery of our Pararescue squadron, requiring technologies from many different disciplines and requiring alignment of priorities to nurture and develop core competencies. AFRD's strategic vision is based on AF's vision of science and technology (S & T) anticipate, find, fix, follow, target, engage and evaluate - anything, anywhere, anytime. To realize this vision, AFRD has developed Long-Term Targeted Challenges (FLTC) that describe the space of AF problems and constitute the long-term planning of AFRD's science and technology.
