Characters Backstory:
Born 2039 CE to a Matara Viska, and her father, Weyrloc Iron; Lai was divided half asari and half krogan. During the turbulent course of her upbringing Lai had demonstrated often she was more krogan than Asari, inheriting a majority of her traits from her Bloodpack veteran krogan father, dubiously known as 'Vicious Viska' during her early Maiden years as an Asari sisterhood inititate in Eclipse. Viska was never a commando, however she was mentored by her Matron mother Matara who was formerly a commando on Thessia, who imposed Lai her ideals of being a corporate monarch and that the weak will never survive the strong throughout the course of her younger years. Like her mother, Lai had become fully seated in eclipse by the time she was in her fourties, fast-tracking her way to the top through biased favoritism within the mercenary contracting group.
By the time Lai had reached her first hundred year mark, she was granted as a senior non-commissioned officer in charge of keeping an Eclipse transport frigate supplied for disitributing red sands in the Terminus systems around Omega. Although often in between she would 'scrub the numbers' and skim profits off the top into her own savings account behind her mother's back to support her lavish lifestyle cravings for the high-life of corporate hedgemony. Although she lived this violent life she had also delved into her own personal studies of the humanities and philosophy, xeno cultures and other books entailing pschology, molding herself to be better than her peers and outwit those above her through manipulative persuasion using the charisma passed down to her father. By 2180, Lai had seated herself as a Second Lieutenant in Eclipse, after coercing a commander that the former quartermaster officer was skimming funds off the top, when in reality it was her all along. She used the salarian as a scapegoat and became quite wealthy.
In 2183 Lai was assigned to the 'Sisyphus'; an Eclipse logistics transport cruiser that was notorious for hauling red sands and illegal cargo across the systems, considered to have one of the best stealth drives amongst any mercenary corporation with the funds that Eclipse was pulling in. As the SIC of the ship itself, Lai had been tasked to transport a ship manifest entitled 'specimens' to an indescript location on an asteroid belt near a gas giant. A saboteur who issued the crates set an internal electronic timer for them to open and reveal the cargo mid-course to the drop-off point. Two reaper banshees had escaped from the crates, slaughtered the crew, resulting in Lai barely escaping on a kodiak off the Sisyphus. It was never determined who sabotaged the crates when questioned by the crew of the Lexington, who rescued her from the pocket of dark-space after an unlikely pass-by.

Lai was requested by some of the delegated non-commissioned and commissioned officers on the ship to stay aboard the Lexington as a quartermaster of the ship, after bargaining a deal to supply New Eden upgrades for the Lexington through Alliance contractors as an equitable exchange for saving her life and being discreet of her failure to keep the Sisyphus afloat. Although she may have ulterior motives. (no meta)
