Regarding the Forums post by Seraph about Event Lengths:

I would have wrote this as a comment in the aforementioned post but it would have been too long and i believe this needs a different type of discussion.

Post can be found here :

Here's an idea :

How about making a series of connected events in a , lets say , a week's worth of time.I am not saying make the event last a week IC wise and make it take 5 hours . Rather , i suggest we make a connected series of events that will tell one story (Similar to campaigns in Halo or any other videogame). We could think of a nice story (i volunteer if you need people) , plan in which maps it will take place and space out events to 1 or 2 every day that will be longer and connected. It is my belief - and i am sure most of you will agree - that quality is always better than quantity (unless you are an Unggoy) . And i think that having every now and then events that connect with each other happening in a designated amount of days would be a nice change from the typical events that happen in HALORP.

Below i wrote an example for ease of understanding:

I spaced the events 1 day afar from each other and not 2 in the same day cause i am taking into consideration that some GMs may want to do different or other types of events when its their turn

Campaign :
Summary : After a UNSC battle group mysteriously disappears , one of its ships - now designated lost with all hands - suddenly comes out of hyperspace in the Station's system. The station's UNSC forces investigate and find clues that if followed will result in the unearthing of a terrible and long lost secret.

Event A (Day 1) : A UNSC Paris class frigate jumps out of hyperspace just outside the Station's MAC killzone. UNSC forces proceed to investigate since it is discovered through COMMS that the ship's distress beacon (SOS) has been transmitting for over 3 years.
objectives: Find survivors and secure the black box of the ship as well as the NAV. Data
Enemies: Flood

Event characters : Personnel that have gone mad and only survived by hiding and resorting to cannibalism.
Duration : 1 hour (Small sized event)
map : Literally every spaceship map.It can even be on station.

Event B (Day 2) : The Stations sends a small force to the Ships last known location before the jump, according to the information they found in the NAV. Data . They find themselves on the planet Sigma Octanus IV and begin searching for clues that can tell them what happened. The planet's is a site of one of the biggest and most horrid naval battles of the human covenant war and one of the UNSCs major but costly victories. It is also the place where master chief found the rock with the engraved coordinates of the 4th Halo ring (Installation 0-4 , Halo CE).They land on a barren wasteland and after some time they find an underground ONI blacksite. They discover that after the battle of Sigma octanus IV , a small UNSC battlegroup was ordered to follow the retreating covenant ships in hopes of discovering covenant outposts/worlds to sabotage / nuke in order to stall the covenants advance. They extract the data containing where the UNSC battle group first went .
Objective : Find anything related to the UNSC battle group

Enemies : U.R.F forces that are trying to rebuild the battle-scarred world.
Duration : 2-3 hours.
map : gm_atomic

Event C (Day 3) : The UNSC force from the station jumps to the coordinates found on the ONI blacksite. After they come out of hyperspace they are shocked to find that not only are they on uncharted space , but on the edge of the milky galaxy. The only planet in the system is a dark sphere. As they approach it is revealed that it is not a planet , but rather a forerunner shieldworld. They enter the forerunner shield world and inside they find that the whole eco-system has been infected with flood spores. The Covenant and the lost UNSC battlegroup gave their final battle here. The first tried to release the flood , the latter sacrificed itself to seal the shield world in order to not allow the flood to break out. The UNSC station force must fight its way against impossible odds, the flood , remaining covenant forces , forerunner sentinels as well as a corrupted forerunner Ancilla and make it to the control center and activate the planet's molten core detonation
to destroy the flood once and for all
Objective : Destroy the planet , stop the flood
Enemies : Flood , Covenant , Forerunner

Event characters: Forerunner Ancilla (AI) that has been corrupted by the logic plague
map: hex_ziggurat /gm_timberlandV3 or literally any other map that looks like it has forerunner structures etc.

P.S no i am not a GM and tbh i do not know how they work. This is only a suggestion.Feel free to type your opinions in the comments and lets have a nice discussion. Whoever says that i am telling GMs what to do didn't get the meaning of this post and is a dumb c***.

Doing campaigns is something game makers should be doing. I know I am currently doing one, don’t know about others.

I agree with Lex; the few campaigns that have been going on recently are the most fun I've had in HALORP, if for no other reason than it just gives me something to look forward to. It's far more engaging and rewarding to take part in a campaign than a one-shot event, in my opinion.

Here's an example: Recently I've taken part in what I will call the Tuvoid Campaign. GM Evermore began with having the server take a mercenary agent and interrogate him. Then, that same group came and attacked the station, leading to ONI personnel being abducted and a huge SPARTAN revenge plot being established about how we're going to go to their home-world and wreck everything for them having the nerve to even try that shit. These were two different events spread out over a few days and the revenge mission still hasn't happened. See how much more realistic and interesting this is? It could have been a one-shot where we rescue an ONI HVT and exfil after killing some mercs, but this is... well, just better, to be honest.

Other campaigns, such as the SPARTAN-killer campaign, which is on hold for now as far as I can tell, spark similar interest in me. It gives players something to look forward to, something to think about. One-shots don't do that. The only problem I see, and it is a massive problem, is that these campaigns seem to prioritize ONI and SPARTANs, leaving other UNSC/HoJ/SoS forces with little/no involvement. That is a problem that is up to the GMs to rectify, however.

Evermore, hades, and I are all working on an over arching story with our three separate characters. More gms should be doing this. I’ll pass this up at our next meeting as it’s something I stressed when I was HGM.
