Backstory:

Cal’Seris nar Moreh was born 36 years ago. Both parents, although very happy that they had a child, had to work very strenuously in order to take care of him. His father was a Heavy Fleet NCO, and his mother was a very skilled scientist in the Special Projects branch of the Flotilla. Both parents, being very spiritual and almost as conservative, shaped their child in their image. He socially he was alienated due to his comparatively radical beliefs, but did very well in school in the sciences. This did impress his parents, however, that did not mean that his home life was ideal.

Unfortunately for him, Cal was giving his father too much respect than he had deserved. Although he worked hard, he wasn’t very gentle or understanding when his child had made mistakes. Nor was he very happy when their growing child had new expenses for them to deal with. Since physical action would have gotten him in major trouble, verbal abuse was used instead. His mother, though deathly afraid of her husband, did try to be supportive of her son behind the scenes. As he grew older, his father was around less and less. This caused him to become distant and begin to abandon his father's organic racism, but retained radical hatred of synthetics.

When of age, he went out to begin his Pilgrimage, seeking a job that would bring him a decent amount of credits over time. His first job brought him to Taetrus, where he served as a Courier. It was there that he first gained true interest in the military. Cal admired the Turian military, their efficiency and sense of duty appealed to his conservative beliefs. After delivering a less-than-legal shipment to a client, and nearly being caught, Cal used his money to buy a ticket to Omega. He then got a job there as the local technology repair Quarian, working for little, causing him to gain more clients. On Omega, he met another Quarian named Yinna, who had a similar occupation. The two of them grew close, and returned to the Flotila upon making a reasonable amount of money.

The two of them conceived a child on the Tamorn later. Cal enlisted in the Flotilla Marines to help provide for Yinna and his child, and to appeal to the sense of duty that he had wanted ever since his time on Taetrus. Unfortunately, Yinna died in childbirth. His daughter, Shaela, was seized by Yinna's parents, who were influential on the Tamorn. Both of them resented Cal, even though he had not been directly responsible for their daughter's death. He has been in limited contact with Shaela ever since. This event, to Cal, meant that he would need to rely on himself from then on out. He was called on for deployment a few weeks after the incident.

Cal's military service went far better than gone far better than his attempts at starting a family. His first unit was sent on several operations against Batarian pirates that had been harassing Quarian trade routes. They were brutally efficient, the pirate's headquarters had been cleared out with no survivors. They recovered an encrypted piece of data that revealed the locations of smaller cells that had also been targeting Quarian trade envoys. This discovery lead to his unit being deployed consistently to deal with these cells until they no longer posed a problem. During his service, his NCOs noted that he did exceedingly well in tech based combat, hacking, and generally macgyvering together technology should the need arise. Whenever his unit weren't busy, Cal usually tinkered with tech, trying to see how it would function. Cal was selected by the Heavy Fleet for an advanced training program for battlefield technicians, which he accepted and entered.

After completing his training, he was deployed once more to a moon near the Migrant Fleet that had reports of Geth on it. The marines entered the atmosphere, and were immediately engaged by the Geth, causing Cal's transport to be downed. The crash left him with a suit breach, as well as lacerations across his chest. Thankfully, he was recovered and evacuated to a medical station nearby in orbit. But these wounds almost killed him, he was bedridden for weeks after. After he finally recovered, Cal insisted that he get back into the fight. But behind the scenes, his mother had pulled more than a few strings for him to be pulled from duty. She had convinced her boss to select Cal as an lab assistant in the Special Projects arm of the Migrant Fleet. Cal accepted, and was trained ever further. He did particularly well in the field of Synthetics, Electronic Warfare, and researching Tech Based Combat.

When the Reaper Invasion started, Cal convinced himself that they had been constructs created by the Geth. But as time went on, he realized that Reapers were completely independent from the Geth. He was completely horrified that something that was even more of a threat to the Geth had appeared in the galaxy, and began massacring organic life. His faith called for him to act directly, but he had been out of the Flotilla Marines for about five years by then. Cal grew discontent with Special Projects, feeling that they were not going far enough to deal with the Reapers. He eventually quit, put his combat armor back on, and signed up for New Eden in hopes of putting both his combat and scientific skills to use.

What is your characters goals? Why were they hired by New Eden?: Cal's goal is to help combat the Reapers in less constrictive way, and make money to send back to his daughter, Shaela, in hopes of her using it for her eventual pilgrimage. He hopes that he can at least try to be a better father than his was, despite his lack of contact with his child. Cal was hired by New Eden due to his combat skill, technical skill, and desire to join the program.
