Characters Backstory((The longer, and more detailed the backstory, the most likely you will be accepted.)):

Kurt Ipsen was born on February 18th, 2153 in the town of Faxe, Denmark within the European Union. His father a computer technician and his mother a former human relations manager prior to emigrating from the U.N.A.S., the young Kurt was allotted a fairly stable middle-class family upbringing, complete with all the bells and whistles one might expect a developing human child to have available. Truly, only a few things of note were present at these starting stages of his life, the most notable of which being a rather odd combination of both a potent ambition and reserved nature becoming evident in the boy’s behavior. The initial years of the child’s time in primary school only served to affirm this code of conduct, for although he did not particularly stand out from his peers aside from being of slightly larger stature even at his early age, he certainly did demonstrate an outright passionate desire to achieve the relative highs of success available to him. Perhaps not evident to an outside observer due to his inward nature and rather average academic ability, those close on a personal level noted subdued bouts of depression at what could be perceived as minor shortcomings. By the same token, the adolescent Kurt was also found to have moments of greater sincere happiness in completing a given task or being acknowledged over being offered toys or confectionaries. The exact reasoning for why this mindset developed is most regularly attributed to the father of the aspiring son, in spite of contrary claims by other family members as to who had influenced him. Regardless of its origin, the state of mind that Kurt had ingrained within himself remained entrenched by the time his first decade of life had come about.

The waning years of primary school and secondary school saw to bringing out about a proper heading for the growing Kurt. More specifically, it was his involvement in organized sports such as wrestling and rugby that proved to be most beneficial in this regard. As with most things, competition on both a team and individual level was pursued with something akin to restrained zeal by Kurt. Also like most things, he was not quite the best of his bunch in his participation of either – though nor was he found to be particularly wanting. In fact, he did remarkably well, again not of the highest performance, but respectable enough as to be held in high regard by teammates and coaches alike. The latter of these two groups, seen with mutual, if not greater esteem by Kurt himself, happened to become some of his most inspirational figures over his time in competition. They also just so happened to primarily consist of personnel who, at one time or another in their lives, had served in either the armed forces or national police. Taking ques from them in note of life’s pursuits, it was steadily asserted that the best possible application of Kurt’s efforts was to become involved in one of the two service categories.

By the time he had entered into the beginning of a postsecondary education at the age of nineteen, Kurt made his choice in the form of studying Criminal Justice. By age twenty three, he verified it with a Bachelor’s degree and employment with the Police of Denmark. While young relative to his cohorts on the force, his internal striving once more saw to his success in his venture. Withstanding a litany of both bureaucratic obstacles at the desk and more than one instance of severe physical injury on the streets, Kurt was able to distinguish himself amongst his peers as a more than capable officer of the law. Four years of this status earned him enough recognition to be accepted into the Politiets Aktionsstyrke – otherwise known as the Special Intervention Unit, the national S.W.A.T. equivalent of the Danish police.

Entry into AKS (the unit’s abbreviation) saw to a barrage of new capacities to which Kurt was expected to fill by both his superiors and himself. Cross-training with national units like the Jaeger and Frogman Corps, other European Union police forces, and even Systems Alliance Marine units, skills along the lines of tactical shooting, hand-to-hand fighting, breaching, engaging armed or barricaded individuals, hostage situations, explosives handling, and other aspects of counter terrorism units were made the norm and drilled to excellence. Performance in the field was of no less quality, and Kurt was most definitely not an exception to such standards. Though it did not bring an end to the bureaucracy involved with the work, nor the irregular injury (being quite exacerbated in both quantity and severity to be precise), service with AKS was undoubtedly the high point in Kurt’s career and life. Strangely enough and to even his own surprise, it became apparent that he endeavored for even higher achievement.

There were a few ways to go about going further than he already had, to be sure. However, central among them in Kurt’s mind was a position in Citadel Security Services. It was a question of a prestige if anything. For the literal hundreds of thousands of constables working in C-Sec, there was a comparatively minimal number of humans. To be what was seen as a representative of humanity in one of the most, if not THE most highly regarded law enforcement agency in the galaxy was a fairly reasonable goal to Kurt. It was a rather significant surprise when his original attempts to become recruited failed, though given hindsight, it proved to be less so rather quickly. There existed the fact that he had less than a decade of policing to his name. Though distinguished in his own unit, and indeed, inexperienced recruits were not unheard of, it was simply a matter of not quite having the level of experience as other applicants. Severely disappointed, he was ultimately accepting of the fact, particularly when it was confided to him that he’d have much higher chances of success given some odd additional years on the force. What he was not accepting of was remaining at his current station.

For one reason or another, immediately following the rejection of his application, Kurt found his position to be wanting. It did not carry with it the same feeling of accomplishment as it had done before. For all the effort he had invested into earning his position, once more factoring in how quickly he had done it, he did not feel the same euphoria of success as he did prior. This sensation, unfortunately, lead to some rather dubious choices being made. Namely, searching for a private military or security contractor to hire him. Kurt was no idiot, well aware of unscrupulous organizations like the Blue Suns and Eclipse mercenary bands and the fact that entry into such groups would assuredly kill his chances of ever entering C-Sec. In light of this, he sought a P.M.C. that had, at least superficially, a solid reputation in terms of activity in Council space. Thus, after eight years in the AKS, Elanus Risk Control Services came to be his new employer.

Again to his surprise, his first position upon gaining his contract was not as security personnel in the field, but rather, aiding in advanced training. While one could naturally assume that the majority of personnel making up a private military force like that of E.R.C.S. had experience in an armed forces or law enforcement position, instructors familiar with C.T.U. operations were still apparently valued. The posting came to be accepted with quite a bit of internal reluctance. Rather than see it as a recognition of his background, Kurt more so viewed his tenure as an instructor as an indication that he was not sufficient enough for field work. By his overemphasized concept of failure, this belief was exaggerated to the point where he assumed it was a matter of his physical ability and skill. After all, on average between a Turian and Human, who’s going to be likely to have the edge in an engagement and who’s going to have the greater sum of combat experience by all probability? Whatever the truth of the matter, Kurt made use of his newfound paycheck, which was quite more substantial than what he previously earned, to undertake a series of surgical operations in the name of improving his condition – specifically that of a heavy bone weave applied to his skeleton and ocular synaptic processors implanted near his eyes. When justifying the move to family members and friends, it was addressed as a mere financial and time investment to stay competitive.

Kurt did, by the conclusion of his contract term with E.R.C.S., see his request for field postings be approved, much to the confusion of his superiors. It was also by this time that a whole myriad of galaxy rending rubbish had transpired, namely the Geth assault on the Citadel, the arrival of the Reapers, the rise of General Orbis, et cetera. While of course sharing in the emotional tide caused by these events, Kurt’s mind was yet again looking for new positions to dedicate himself to. Of great interest to him was the affairs of the New Eden Corporation, and of greater interest, their well set reputation for all things considered. Rather than opt for another contract term with Elanus Risk Control Services, as much as he appreciated his time with the company, he instead went about seeking a position with New Eden.

What is your characters goal aboard the ship? Why were they hired by New Eden?: Kurt is effectively looking to build up his portfolio via a contract with New Eden. Seemingly competent at infantry work and willing to cross over into personnel training in addition to field deployment, New Eden might consider the sod to be a viable employee.

Additional notes: I understand completely if my relative lack of activity invalidates this application and thus leads to it being denied. Additionally, I’ll wholly admit I’m trash at writing backstories and fully open to critique in regards to it.
