Sloan, born on Palaven to the Turian tribal surname of Harken, was raised into a highly militant lineage of 'lifer' soldiers who's heritage stretched as far back as the Krogan Wars. At a young age there were great expectations of his capabilities as a growing turian and as a soldier, even before his initial shipping to bootcamp on his fifteenth birthday, Sloan's father; Dareen Harken, was nothing short of a disciplined savant who instilled into Sloan at a young age the values of solidarity of service and the principles of a man of sacrifice. However this was ineffective, Sloan skating his way through boot camp and much through his initial enlistment although his father had 'tipped' off the higher brass of the turian military ladder and promoted his son as a man who was capable of being a fine young commissioned officer, placing Sloan in a 'trial by fire' series of events from his youth, most of them ending in 'less than satisfactory' outcomes as reported by his superior officers overseeing his training, noticing patterns of misconduct such as alcoholism. It was also suggested that Sloan may have been hiding biotic abilities, although he was never recommended to be transferred to the Cabals due to lack of evidence provided by his instructors, continuing a regular infantry service instead.

Unfortunately for Sloan his initial hard trial as a young officer in the turian navy ended in nothing less than a greek tragedy. A krogan mercenary carrier smuggling weapons to a Volus mercantile shipping company near Citadel space had been intercepted and boarded by the frigate he was stationed on during the first initial years of his service. Sloan, spearheading the boarding party of the team, had never gone head to head with krogan forces in close quarters and was gravely injured during the incident surviving only by dumb luck, although it was not enough to save two other enlisted men beneath him during the encounter which lead to two friendly fatalities. Turian officers, dissapointed in Sloan's ability to keep his men alive, had decided it was best if he was not involved in frontier operations and had him re-assigned to a more relaxed administrative position doing logistics for the turian navy on Palaven, where he would endlessly catalog paperwork. This did not settle well with Sloan, who having suffered a loss of comrades and already a taste for a blood; had grown impatient with the dullness of financial politics and finally had snapped after a verbal confrontation with his father on the matter.

Sloan had resigned from his commissioned officer position in the turian navy many years before his contract was fulfilled, bringing a mark of shame upon the Harken family that had been laid with prestige for many generations, one of the first marks of shame ever to be brought upon the Harkens. Sloan's father, unable to bear the distinct failure of his son that swallowed the Harkens reputation down the gutter, became a raging alcoholic and issued a bounty to local mercenary groups to bring his son in alive in order to finish his service and restore the family name. The local mercenaries had tracked Sloan down to a small turian settlement at a bar, which resulted in Sloan accidentally breaking the neck of a mercenary using a metallic bar stool in a fit of rage and hospitalizing the rest. Paranoia began to overtake Sloan, realizing he had committed murder in cold blood, he fled the system on a local smuggler ship, although Sloan's identity was never revealed by the local authorities of the settlement as the perpetrator of the crime, leading them to a dead end and mercenaries off Sloan's trail.

After years of station hopping and squatting, living a homeless life, Sloan found himself in Omega. During one drunken night of two batarians starting shit, Sloan fucked them up real good and flung them half-way across the bar using bar stools, which ended in his detainment by hired muscle on Omega. In detainment he was approached by a man named Derius, leader of a local organization on Omega named the 'Talons' who dealt in red sands smuggling across the system. Derius was impressed by the display, offered Sloan a position in the Talons as restitution for starting shit on Omega without his consent, and later took Sloan under his wing as one of his trustees. An adept biotic turian woman who was with the Talons had trained Sloan how to hone his martial prowess in hand-to-hand disarming technique as they spent a few years on the station providing Omega security from some of the worst scumbags around the galaxy. In around 2183 CE, Sloan was a full-fledged member of the Talons, running with the racket and tasked with smuggling red sands to sell to high-paying clients at the Citadel.

Upon arrival at the station the deal was good, Sloan was enjoying himself undercover, product was flowing and the buyers paid their dues. Sloan was ordered with his racket for some leisure time before their begrudging trip back to the shithole of a station known as Omega. Out of some stroke of awful luck, it was on this same day that the Citadel had come into contact with the reaper threat, although in Sloan's eyes it was nothing but a geth incursion. They swarmed the Citadel, all inhabitants on the Citadel at that time had little to no time to react to the threat, security was swarmed and there was nothing but geth at every corner and every turn. Sloan and gang fought the geth violently, witnessing the death of innocents and one of his fellow gang men being killed in a blaze of plasma fire, forcing him to retreat back to Omega with a damaged ship that would cost half the credits they made during the red sands deal on the Citadel, leaving Sloan in bad standing with the Talons after he explained what had happend.

It was but some three odd years before the reaper threat surfaced to the whole galaxy. Sloan, having witnessed the threat himself and endearing the title as a 'paranoid lunatic', took his leave from the Talons before they had elected new leadership in 2186. Somewhere down the line doing tedious odd jobs for contracting companies he had come into contact with New Eden, signing on with them by leaving out the details of his colorful past life.

What is your characters goal aboard the ship? Why were they hired by New Eden? : Confrontation against the filth of the galaxy as a personal motive, hired because of extensive military history with the potential promise of shaping up and fulfilling a leadership role.
